Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat)

Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) is a private joint stock company, wholly owned by Mubadala.

Yahsat was established to accommodate the growing demand for emerging Government and commercial satellite requirements in the Middle East and, since incorporation in 2007, aims to develop, procure, own and operate a hybrid communications satellite system providing solutions for broadcasting services, internet trunking via satellite, corporate data networks and backhauling services to telecom operators.

Yahsat also developed customized satellite solutions for the Government of Abu Dhabi, as well as the commercial sector in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and South West Asia, offering optimum beam strength and coverage.

Yahsat’s Y1A satellite was successfully launched at 1:30am on April 23rd 2011 from the Arianespace Spaceport in Korou, French Guiana. 

The satellite is the first of two UAE-based communication satellites that will provide a range of commercial services including TV Broadcasting. Y1A will also provide secure communications for the UAE Armed Forces.
